Petrópolis

The city of Petropolis is located 40 miles away from Rio and it has been called the Imperial City since the Emperor Pedro II. Settled by the Germans, Petropolis keeps the memory of Brazilian history with its buildings and charming streets.

Our fist stop is at Quitandinha Hotel, built in 1944 to be the bigger Hotel Casino in Latin America, but when the casinos were prohibited it couldn’t survive only as a hotel for very long. The apartments were sold and now a days it’s saloons are used for parties and events.

From Quitandinha we head to the Imperial Museum, which has been the summer residence of the Emperor D. Pedro II and where you can see furniture and objects such as the crown made of gold, pearls and diamonds used by D. Pedro I and D. Pedro II.

From there we visit the Gothic Cathedral where Princess Isabel was buried along with the tombstones of D. Pedro II and his wife. We also go to the house of Santos Dumont, the inventor of the airplane and make a break for lunch.

The tour will continue on the Crystal Palace, built in France and mounted in Brazil, destined to shelter exhibitions and great parties promoted by Princess Isabel.

Price includes lunch and tickets.
